Then we’ve got the puzzles that are often just messing with things in the environment. Combat is more of a last resort anyway with exit points and hiding spots abundant throughout the small areas. Performing attacks will start to drain your batteries, but with the over-abundance of supplies this is rarely ever a problem. If you are spotted, simply targeting the weak spots (aim-assist is aggressive) will allow you to take them down with ease. Pressing the interact button whilst standing right behind an enemy will allow you to perform an insta-kill takedown. In the same style as Alan Wake, light is your greatest ally with being able to utilise it to take out your dark enemies. It’s simple and not as effective as it should be, ending up being slightly tedious. If you do get seen, getting away is pretty easy with some of the gadgets you’ll pick up and dozens of hiding spaces scattered around the small maps. The stealth is as simple as it gets with basic monster patrols who have a limited field of vision in which to spot you. As you sneak around the town you will encounter a number of different enemy types all wanting to take you out. The city is destroyed and Sally is the only person around, although it seems she has brought monsters along with her. After being chased by some bullies in the game’s opening sequence, you return to the town and things have changed. She is out of town putting up posters, desperately trying to keep people reminded of her plight and stay on the lookout. So, while there are no specifics on what platforms or when “Gylt” might arrive, there is at least confirmation that the first Stadia exclusive will find new life on additional platforms in the future.You play as Sally, whose cousin, Emily, has mysteriously vanished. “Spooky season is around the corner… And we bring terrific news! The game’s website looked untouched since its release, and its social channels hadn’t been updated since 2021. Three years on, the game is still exclusive to Google Stadia, so when Google announced it was sunsetting the platform in September, I wondered if the game would be lost along with the Google service. While there is nothing groundbreaking about “Gylt,” and it isn’t without its flaws, it was a game I enjoyed playing and wished more people had the opportunity to experience. During the chase, you fall into a ditch and, in an attempt to find a way home, wind up in a nightmarish alternate reality where you quickly discover your cousin now resides. You start the game posting missing posters around your hometown of Bethelwood before being chased away by a group of bullies. In it, you play as Sally, a young girl in search of her cousin Emily. I shared my review of the game back in 2020, but essentially, “Gylt” is a horror adventure game that mixes action, stealth, and environmental puzzles in a fantastical world that is both beautiful and dark. One of the draws for me beyond the concept of Stadia was an exclusive launch title called “Gylt.” I was an early adopter, purchasing a Founders Edition of the service when it was first announced, though admittedly, the novelty of it quickly wore off. Surviving just over three years, the service just never gained the traction Google hoped it would. Google’s cloud gaming platform Stadia is set to shut down on January 18, 2023. ![]()
